China Shipbuilding breaks through titanium alloy structure manufacturing technology

Recently, a well-known enterprise under China Shipbuilding Group has successfully completed the titanium alloy structure manufacturing capacity building project and passed the assessment and acceptance by the competent authorities, marking the company as one of the few shipyards in China with this capacity. At the same time, Huangpu Wenchong also realized the first application of deep-melt TIG welding process in the shipbuilding industry, which set a new milestone for the promotion and application of titanium alloy.
Titanium alloy, as a new material with high strength, low density, corrosion resistance and heat insulation performance, shows great potential in the field of shipbuilding. In order to overcome this technical difficulty, the project team of Whampoa Wenchong Company has been working hard for two years, and has carried out a full range of technological research from raw material discharging, machining, assembly and welding to final painting and coating.



As the physical and chemical properties of titanium alloy are very different from ordinary metals, the processing, assembly and welding are difficult and demanding. China Shipbuilding Group special technician, project member Peng Weihua introduced: "on the one hand, titanium alloy hardness, assembly requires special cutting and grinding equipment; on the other hand, titanium alloy chemical properties are more active, poor thermal conductivity, high temperature is easy to chemical reaction in the air, so the whole process to use argon to isolate the air, rapid cooling to ensure the quality of welding. "
Among them, the first application of deep melting TIG welding can realize single-sided welding and double-sided molding, synchronously improving the construction quality and efficiency. In addition, due to the complex structure and various forms of titanium alloy welding position, the team also invented a fixed gas groove for piecework and T-profile assembly, as well as 95 gas shields for various different positions, which is not only effective, but also reduces the use of manual labor for gas protection.
According to the relevant personnel: "through the process technology research, we from scratch, and finally solved the titanium alloy manufacturing this neck problem, and now has completed the first batch of titanium alloy segment construction tasks, to achieve cost reduction and efficiency."
