Properties of Tantalum
Mar 08, 2024
Tantalum has a melting point of 2980°C and is the third most refractory metal after tungsten and rhenium. Pure tantalum slightly blue color, excellent plasticity, in the cold state without intermediate annealing can be rolled into very thin (less than 0.01 mm) plate.
Tantalum melting point, boiling point is high, but the electron escape work than tungsten, molybdenum and other refractory metals for the low, due to the weak ability to emit electrons, has been used in electric vacuum technology.

Tantalum corrosion resistance is the same as glass, at medium temperature (about 150 ℃) only fluorine, hydrofluoric acid, sulfur trioxide (including fuming sulfuric acid), strong alkali and some molten salts on tantalum has an impact. Tantalum metal is stable in air at room temperature, and accelerated oxidation to generate Ta205 when heated to higher than 500℃.
