Titanium Grade Selection Guide

Grade UNS Key Properties Best For
Gr.1 R50250 Softest, highest ductility (24% elongation), best formability U-bending, deep drawing, seawater heat exchangers
Gr.2 R50400 Higher strength (275 MPa yield), good formability (20% elongation) General purpose, industrial piping, condensers
Gr.7 R52400 Gr.2 + 0.12-0.25% palladium, superior crevice corrosion resistance Stagnant seawater, high chlorides, reducing acids
Gr.9 R56320 High strength (Ti-3Al-2.5V), good weldability Aerospace hydraulics, high-pressure tubing
Gr.12 R53400 Medium strength (Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni), improved corrosion resistance Shell & tube heat exchangers, chemical processing

By Application

If your application involves... Recommended Grade
U-bent heat exchanger tubes Gr.1 (best formability)
Straight tubes, general seawater cooling Gr.1 or Gr.2
Stagnant seawater or crevice risk Gr.7 (palladium grade)
High pressure hydraulic systems Gr.9
Chemical processing with mild acids Gr.12

By Property

If you need... Choose this grade
Highest ductility (bending, forming) Gr.1
Highest strength among CP grades Gr.2
Best crevice corrosion resistance Gr.7
Highest overall strength Gr.9
Balanced strength & corrosion Gr.12

FAQ

1. What is the most popular titanium grade for seawater heat exchangers?
Gr.1 is the most popular due to its 24% elongation for U-bending and excellent seawater corrosion resistance. Gr.2 is also used for straight tubes.

2. Do you have Gr.1 titanium tube in stock?
Yes. Common sizes from 12.7mm to 50.8mm OD with wall thickness 0.7-1.5mm are in stock and ready to ship.

3. What is the difference between Gr.1 and Gr.2?
Gr.1 has lower yield strength (170 MPa vs 275 MPa) but higher elongation (24% vs 20%). Choose Gr.1 for bending; choose Gr.2 for higher pressure.

4. When should I choose Gr.7 instead of Gr.1?
Choose Gr.7 when the tube will be in stagnant seawater or has crevice risk (e.g., tube-to-tubesheet joints). The palladium addition provides superior crevice corrosion resistance.

5. Can you supply U-bent titanium tubes?
Yes. We can bend Gr.1 titanium tube to your drawing. Minimum bending radius depends on OD/wall ratio.

6. What is your MOQ for stock sizes?
No MOQ for stock sizes. You can order any quantity.

7. Do you provide free samples?
Yes. Free samples (200-300mm length) are available. You pay only shipping cost.

8. What is your delivery time for stock items?
3-7 days after payment confirmation for stock sizes.

9. Do you accept SGS inspection?
Yes. SGS or any third-party inspection is welcome at buyer's cost.

10. How do I place an order?
Email us with: Grade, OD, wall thickness, length, quantity, and destination port. We will reply with a quote within 24 hours.
