Organizational characteristics of 3D printed metallic tantalum
Mar 08, 2024
Pure tantalum is composed of a-Ta with becc structure at room temperature without complex phase transitions, however, the pure metal is prone to a coarse columnar crystal organization with severe anisotropy during 3D printing. Therefore, how to change the preferential orientation through the adjustment of forming process parameters and scanning strategy is a key direction of current research.

According to the research findings, the metallic tantalum of 3D printing technology equipment are all columnar crystal structure, and optimally oriented along the growth direction. The adjustment of laser power, powder layer thickness, scanning strategy and other parameters will not affect the structural characteristics of columnar crystals, but only the internal orientation distribution.
