Recycling methods for molybdenum scrap
Feb 06, 2024
Molybdenum recovery refers to the process of obtaining molybdenum metal from molybdenum wastes, including molybdenum-containing waste catalysts, molybdenum compounds, molybdenum powders, molybdenum materials, molybdenum alloys and so on, through oxidizing and roasting as well as acid and alkali treatment.
The recovered molybdenum can be used to produce industrial molybdenum oxide, ferromolybdenum, ammonium molybdate and other molybdates. The recovery of molybdenum waste, especially from spent catalysts, plays an important role in molybdenum production and is known as the third largest source of molybdenum supply (the first largest source is by-product molybdenum and the second largest source is main-product molybdenum).

Due to the wide variety of molybdenum-containing wastes and different regeneration methods, the common regeneration methods for molybdenum are: sublimation, zinc fusion and alkali leaching, etc. The general recovery rate of molybdenum is 96-98%.
The molybdenum recycling plant can choose or develop applicable methods according to the specific composition of the waste molybdenum material and the specific conditions of the plant, in order to obtain higher economic benefits.
