titanium grade 2 chemical composition

What is GR2 titanium material?

Titanium Grade 2 is a pure alpha titanium. With moderate strength and excellent corrosion resistance and formability, Grade 2 titanium represents the most widely used form of titanium. Compared to the other grades of commercially pure titanium, Grade 2 titanium is slightly weaker than Grade 3, but stronger than Grade 1 and equally resistant to corrosion.

titanium grade 2 chemical composition

Element Content (%)
Titanium, Ti ≥ 98.9
Iron, Fe ≤ 0.30
Oxygen, O ≤ 0.25
Carbon, C ≤ 0.080
Nitrogen, N ≤ 0.030
Hydrogen, H ≤ 0.015

Advantages of CP Titanium Grade 2

Titanium Grade 2 shares many of the same qualities as Grade 1 Titanium, but Titanium 2 offers improved strength. Titanium Grade 2 is equally as corrosion resistant as Titanium Grade 1, and strength up to 400 ° F and oxidation resistance to 600 ° F. Ti Grade 2 is one of the most popular grades of titanium due to its varied usability and wide availability.

Where is Ti Gr2 (Gr2, UNS Titanium Grade 2) Used?

Ti Gr2 is used in the aerospace industry for aircraft components, rocket engines, spacecraft bodies, and other components due to its lightweight and strength. In the chemical industry, its corrosion resistance makes it suitable for pipelines, reactors, and other equipment. Within the maritime sector, its resistance to seawater corrosion makes it suitable for ship components, surface equipment, and other parts. For medical implants, Ti Gr2's biocompatible properties make it suitable for various applications including bone plates, dental implants, and prosthetics.

What is the Price of Ti Gr2 (Gr2, UNS Titanium Grade 2) Material?

Titanium Grade 2 Plate/Sheet (Most Common Reference):

Approx. $15 - $35 per kg ($7 - $16 per lb).

Thickness, width, and finish (hot-rolled vs. cold-rolled) cause price variations. Thinner, polished sheets cost more.

Bar/Rod (Round, Hex, Square):

Approx. $20 - $45 per kg ($9 - $20 per lb).

Diameter and tolerance are key factors. Large-diameter forged bars are cheaper per kg than precision-ground small rods.

Tubing/Pipe:

Approx. $40 - $100+ per kg ($18 - $45+ per lb).

This is one of the more expensive forms due to the complex extrusion or pilgering process. Seamless tubing is significantly more costly than welded. Tight tolerances increase price.

Wire:

Approx. $30 - $60 per kg ($14 - $27 per lb).

Price depends on diameter and spool size.

Fasteners (Bolts, Nuts, Screws):

Approx. $40 - $100+ per kg ($18 - $45+ per lb), but often sold by the piece.

High cost due to the forging/machining and threading operations.

Titanium Sponge (Raw Ingredient):

Approx. $8 - $12 per kg.

This is the base raw material from which all mill products are made. Its price is a key driver for all downstream products.
