Gr9 Titanium in the aerospace industry

Apr 07, 2024

The aviation industry is the earliest sector to develop and apply Gr9 titanium and titanium alloys. Without titanium in airplanes and engines, it would be practically impossible to build supersonic airplanes at Mach 2.7. The quality of the aircraft engine is reduced by 1kg for every 1kg, and its cost of use usually saves 220~440 dollars. The United States in 1950 for the first time in the F84 fighter-bomber in the use of industrial pure titanium manufacturing rear fuselage heat shield, wind cowl and tail cowl and other non-bearing components. The United States Pratt Whitney began in 1954 with Ti-6Al-4V alloy J57 turbojet engine compressor rotor disk and blade. The British Rolls Royce Company used Ti-6Al-4V alloy on the Avon engine in 1954.
