TC4 features:

(1) The composition of titanium alloy TC4 is Ti-6Al-4V, which belongs to (α+β) titanium alloy and has good mechanical properties. Stronger than strength. The intensity of TC4 is sb=1.012 GPa, density g=4.4*103, specific strength sb/g=23.5, and the specific strength sb/g of alloy steel is less than 18.

(2) The thermal conductivity of titanium alloy is low. The thermal conductivity of titanium alloy is 1/5 of that of iron and 1/10 of that of aluminum. The thermal conductivity of TC4 is l = 7.955 W/m?K. The elastic modulus of titanium alloy is lower. The elastic modulus of TC4 is E = 10 GPa, which is about 1/2 of that of steel, so titanium alloys are easily deformed during processing. Mostly used in medical and aviation and other fields.

(3) Ti-6Al-4V is a heat-treated titanium alloy that has good weldability in sheet formability and forging properties. It is used in the manufacture of jet engine compressor blades, impellers, etc. Others such as landing gear wheels and structures Parts, fasteners, brackets, aircraft accessories, frames, purlin structure, pipes, are used very widely.

(4) The surface hardness of TC4 itself is not high, HRC30. However, the heat of the processing will cause the surface of the material to be oxidized, nitrided, and carbonized to form a mixed skin of titanium oxide, titanium dioxide, titanium oxide, titanium carbide, and titanium nitride. Among them, titanium carbide is an important part of cemented carbide, hardness and tool quite; titanium nitride is a wear-resistant material, hardness is not low is often used for gold coating of jewelry; titanium dioxide is a ceramic glaze when firing Ingredients, hardness is not low (Mohs hardness 7,45 steel is only 5.5. Mohs hardness is not easy to plastic deformation of gemstones, ore, glass and other measurement methods.

FAQ

What is the density of GR5 titanium?
The density of GR5 titanium is approximately 4.43 g/cm³, which is about 60% of the density of steel, contributing to its high strength-to-weight ratio.
Can GR5 titanium be heat treated?
Yes, GR5 titanium can be strengthened through solution treatment and aging (STA) processes, which enhance its mechanical properties compared to the annealed condition.
Is GR5 titanium corrosion resistant?
Yes, GR5 titanium exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in many environments, including seawater, chloride solutions, and various chemical media, due to a stable, protective oxide film.
Can GR5 titanium be welded?
Yes, GR5 titanium has good weldability using processes like Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG) and Electron Beam Welding (EBW), provided that strict shielding from atmospheric contamination is maintained.
9. How does the strength of GR5 compare to commercially pure (CP) titanium grades?
GR5 titanium has significantly higher strength than CP titanium grades (such as GR2 or GR4). GR5 is a medium-strength alloy, whereas CP grades are lower in strength but often more formable.
What are the main industries that use GR5 titanium?
The primary industries using GR5 titanium are aerospace (for airframe and engine components), medical (for orthopedic and dental implants), marine, chemical processing, and high-performance automotive.
Is GR5 titanium biocompatible?
Yes, GR5 titanium (Ti-6Al-4V) is considered biocompatible and is a standard material for permanent surgical implants like joint replacements and bone plates, though there is ongoing research into vanadium-free alloys for certain long-term implants.
12. What are the machining considerations for GR5 titanium?
Machining GR5 titanium requires sharp tools, lower cutting speeds, high feed rates, ample coolant, and a rigid setup to manage its low thermal conductivity and tendency to work-harden.
What is the maximum service temperature for GR5 titanium?
For long-term, continuous service, GR5 titanium is generally recommended for use up to approximately 300-350°C (570-660°F). Its strength decreases significantly at higher temperatures.
What is the difference between GR5 (Ti-6Al-4V) and GR23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI)?
GR23 is the Extra Low Interstitial (ELI) version of GR5. GR23 has stricter limits on oxygen and iron content, resulting in improved ductility, fracture toughness, and suitability for critical medical and cryogenic applications.
