Why Choose Titanium Grade 2?

Grade 2 titanium is widely recognized for its excellent ductility and corrosion resistance. This makes it the alloy of choice for many industrial applications. Its attributes include:

Good Ductility: Grade 2 titanium is highly formable and easy to work with, which is crucial for applications requiring complex shapes and designs.

Exceptional Corrosion Resistance: Like other commercially pure titanium grades, Grade 2 excels in resisting corrosion in various environments, including seawater, chemicals, and high-temperature conditions.

Versatile Applications: Due to its balanced properties, Grade 2 titanium is commonly used in industries such as aerospace, chemical processing, and medical implants.

What is the yield strength of gr2 titanium?

Material (Annealed Condition) Yield Strength Comparison to Gr2
Titanium Grade 2 (ASTM Min.) 275 MPa (40 ksi) Baseline
Titanium Grade 2 (Typical Actual) ~345 MPa (50 ksi) ~25% higher than min. spec
304 Stainless Steel 215 MPa (31 ksi) Gr2 is significantly stronger
6061-T6 Aluminum 276 MPa (40 ksi) Nearly identical
Titanium Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) 828 MPa (120 ksi) Gr5 is ~3x stronger

gr2 titanium Applications

This alloy is primarily use for corrosion resistance and is the most widely used specification in all product forms. Grade 2 titanium proves useful in chemical processes, since it is highly resistant to chemical environments including oxidizing media, alkaline media, organic acids and compounds, aqueous salt solutions and hot gases. Its corrosion resistance holds up in liquid metals, nitric acid, mildly reducing acids and wet chlorine or bromine gas.

Grade 2 titanium is also used to manufacture heat exchangers and cryogenic vessels. In seawater, Grade 2 is fully resistant to corrosion at temperatures up to 300°C.
