Grade 2 titanium is considered commercially pure titanium, which indicates that Grade 2 titanium seamless tubing is unalloyed. It is considered a very popular grade of metal among other titanium alloys and is stronger compared to Grade 1. Ti grade 2, on the other hand, is not as strong as other alloy grades, including α-β or β titanium alloys.

Because of its strong weldability, the alloy is used in applications where this property is considered important. For example, UNS R50400 titanium polished bar is used as part of cryogenic vessels, heat exchangers, airframe components, and CPI equipment.

The corrosion resistance of titanium Gr 2 rods is attributed to the protective, stable and firmly adhered oxide layer formed on their surface.
