Elemental Sources Of Titanium
Jan 19, 2024
Titanium is a rare metal and has the seventh highest abundance in the earth's crust with 0.42%. The main minerals used for smelting titanium are ilmenite (FeTiO3), rutile (TiO2) and calcite. The ore is treated to obtain volatile titanium tetrachloride, which is then reduced with magnesium to produce pure titanium.
