Design and Operational Considerations

Limitations:

Not suitable for non-oxidizing, strong reducing acids (e.g., non-aerated boiling concentrated hydrochloric or sulfuric acid). For such environments, higher-grade alloys like Gr.7 (TA9, Ti-Pd) or Gr.12 (Ti-Ni-Mo) are required.

Crevice Corrosion Risk:

May occur in high-temperature (>120°C), high-chloride, and oxygen-deficient crevices (e.g., under gaskets or flange faces). Design should avoid creating stagnant zones.

Erosion and Cavitation:

Velocity limits or protective designs are necessary if the media contain solid particles or are prone to cavitation.

Welding Quality:

Welding must be performed using automatic TIG (GTAW) with full high-purity inert gas (argon) protection to ensure weld quality matches the base metal.
