Overview of resources
China is very rich in titanium resources, is the world's largest titanium resource country, its reserves are in the forefront of the world. China's titanium deposits of ore industry type is relatively complete, both primary and secondary ores, primary vanadium and titanium magnetite for China's main industrial type. Ilmenite accounts for 98 per cent of China's total titanium resource reserves, and rutile accounts for only 2 per cent. According to the data published by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in 2015, China's ilmenite reserves of 200 million tonnes, accounting for 28% of the global reserves, ranked first in the world.
Regional Distribution and Ore Deposit Distribution
There are 142 titanium deposits in China, which are distributed in 20 provinces and regions, with the main origins in Sichuan, Hebei, Hainan, Hubei, Guangdong, Guangxi, Shanxi, Shandong, Shaanxi, Henan and other provinces.
China's titanium deposits of ore industry type is relatively complete, both primary and secondary ores, primary vanadium and titanium magnetite for China's main industrial type. In ilmenite-type titanium resources, primary ores accounted for 97 per cent, and alluvial ores accounted for 3 per cent; in rutile-type titanium resources, the vast majority of low-grade primary ores, whose reserves accounted for 86 per cent of the country's rutile resources, and alluvial ores for 14 per cent. There are 45 primary ilmenite ores in the country, mainly located in Pansi, Sichuan Province and Chengde, Hebei Province. In 2011, China's primary ilmenite reserves were 246 million tonnes. There are 85 ilmenite ore resources, mainly distributed in Hainan, Yunnan, Guangdong and Guangxi, with a reserve of 5 million tonnes, which is also an important titanium ore resource in China. In contrast, rutile ore resources are less, with 41 resource sources, mainly distributed in Henan, Hubei and Shanxi, with a reserve of 2 million tonnes.
Distribution of ilmenite rock ore
China's ilmenite rock ore is mainly vanadium-titanium magnetite. It is mainly distributed in Panzhihua and Hongge in Sichuan Province, Baima in Miyi, Taihe in Xichang, Damiao, Heishan, Zhaobinggou in Fengning and Nantianmen in Chongli in Chengde, Hebei Province, Tongyu in Zuoquan, Shanxi Province, Biqigou in Yangxian, Shaanxi Province, Meiya in Xinjiang, Xiangshan in Hami City, Datan in Gansu Province, Zhaozizhuang in Maoyang, Henan Province, Xiaolan in Xingning, Guangdong Province, Huma in Heilongjiang Province, Shangzhuang and Huairou Xindi in Changping, Beijing. The
The large deposits with proven reserves are as follows:
1. Vanadium and titanium magnetite in the West Panxi region: located in the southwestern part of Sichuan Province, including more than 20 counties and cities such as Panzhihua and Liangshan Prefecture. West Panzhihua region is a huge titanium treasure bowl, its titanium resources for the world's proven reserves of 1/4, which is accompanied by vanadium, titanium, cobalt, gallium and a dozen other rare and precious metals. Proven vanadium and titanium magnetite about 9.8 × 109 t, titanium dioxide reserves of 8.73 × 108 t. The average grade of the raw ore TiO2 content of 5%.
2. Chengde Vanadium-Titanium Magnetite: Chengde has abundant vanadium-titanium magnetite resources. The proven reserves of titanium resources amount to 2.031×107t, which is second only to those in the western part of the country. It ranks 2nd in China. It is mainly distributed in the basal and ultramafic rocks of Damiao, Black Mountain and Tougou. The average grade TiO2 content of the raw ore is 8%.
Distribution of ilmenite sand ore
China's ilmenite sand ore resources are mainly distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan and Yunnan provinces and regions, the mine is relatively scattered, has not yet found large deposits. China's ilmenite sand ore ilmenite grade, compared with foreign countries, relatively low, most of the TiO2 content in the concentrate between 48-52%, only in some areas of Guangxi has TiO2 content of 54-60% of high-grade high-quality ilmenite. There are a total of 66 ilmenite sand mining areas in the country, including 9 large-scale, 15 medium-sized and 42 small-scale. Its deposits are characterised by relatively scattered mine sites, small scale and low grade. Hainan and Yunnan have larger reserves.

Primary rutile ore distribution
So far, China has found rutile deposits, mineralisation points 88, distributed in 17 provinces, cities and districts, to Hubei, Henan, Shaanxi two, Jiangsu, Shanxi and Shandong-based (accounting for 96% of the total national reserves). There are 50 sites that have been surveyed, with a proven reserve of about 1.530×107t (rutile TiO2). Among them, there are 9 large deposits with reserves of about 1.4×107t, accounting for 91% of the total reserves: 10 medium-sized deposits with reserves of 8.4×105t, accounting for 5.4% of the total reserves. Among the large deposits, there are 6 rock-mineral type deposits, accounting for about 89% of the total reserves; 3 sand-mineral type deposits, accounting for about 11% of the total reserves. Ore dressing recovery rate is higher coarse grain type deposits 1, accounting for only 6% of the total reserves.
China's natural rutile ore is mainly primary rutile ore, mainly distributed in Hubei, Shanxi, Henan, Shaanxi, Anhui, Jiangsu and other provinces and regions. Dafushan Rutile Mine in Zaoyang City, Hubei Province and Mizigou Rutile Mine in Daixian County, Shanxi Province are the two largest sources that have been discovered in China, accounting for 97% of the country's total reserves of rutile rock ore resources.
Distribution of Rutile Alluvial Ore
Rutile alluvial mines include seashore alluvial mines and residual slope deposits weathered crust type rutile mines. China's rutile alluvial ore reserves are mainly distributed in five provinces and regions, including Henan, Hubei, Shandong, Hunan and Shaanxi. Secondly, there are Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan, with a total of 27 mines, including 2 large mines, 4 medium-sized mines, and the rest are small mines. Seaside sand-type rutile mines are mainly distributed in Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and other provinces.
