Distribution of global titanium resources
Jan 30, 2024
According to data published by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in 2015, the total global resources of anatase, ilmenite and rutile exceeded 2 billion tonnes, of which ilmenite reserves were about 720 million tonnes, accounting for 92% of the global titanium ore, and rutile reserves were about 47 million tonnes, with the two having combined reserves of about 767 million tonnes. Global titanium resources are mainly distributed in Australia, South Africa, Canada, China and India and other countries.
Specific data on ilmenite: China (200 million tonnes), Australia (170 million tonnes), India (85 million tonnes), South Africa (63 million tonnes), Brazil (43 million tonnes).

Rutile specific data: Australia (28 million tonnes), South Africa (8.3 million tonnes), India (7.4 million tonnes).
Among them, China's ilmenite reserves account for 28% of the global reserves, ranking first in the world. Australia's rutile resources account for 60% of the world's total rutile, making it the country with the richest rutile resources.
