6Al-4V titanium has good corrosion resistance to seawater and marine atmosphere, as well as wet chlorine and chlorine dioxide. Processing is similar to austenitic stainless steels (e.g. 304, 316). Most applications typically use low speed, heavy feed, and non-chlorinated cutting fluids.
Description
Ti-6Al-4V titanium, commonly known as 6Al-4V, is a 2-phase α-β type titanium alloy. This grade is mainly used for forged products such as round bars, flat bars, rolled plates and forged products. It is produced by various melts such as vacuum arc remelting (VAR), electron beam (EB) or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Remelting is done in a VAR furnace in one or two steps.
Products Description
In the annealed condition, the minimum yield strength is 120 Ksi. It is easily formed and can be welded using an inert gas shield. Depending on the application, spot welding, seam welding, flash welding and pressure welding can also be used. Its strength properties can be improved through solution treatment and aging (STA). This grade has good high temperature strength, low temperature impact strength, and good creep resistance.
