Description
Ti-6Al-4V titanium, commonly known as 6Al-4V, is a 2-phase alpha-beta type titanium alloy. This grade is primarily used in wrought products such as rounds, flats, rolled sheets and forged products. It is produced in a variety of melts such as vacuum arc remelting (VAR), electron beam (EB) or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Remelting is done in one or two steps in a VAR furnace.
Products Description
In the annealed condition, it has a minimum yield strength of 120 Ksi. It is easily molded and can be welded using inert gas protection. Depending on the application, spot, seam, flash and pressure welding can also be used. Its strength properties can be improved by solution treatment and aging (STA). This grade has good high-temperature strength, low-temperature impact strength, and good creep resistance.6Al-4V Titanium has good corrosion resistance to seawater and marine atmospheres as well as to wet chlorine and chlorine dioxide. Processing is similar to austenitic stainless steels (e.g., 304, 316). Most applications typically use low speed, heavy feed and non-chlorinated cutting fluids.
