Thin titanium sheet reacts slowly with water and air at ambient temperatures. This is because, upon exposure to both media, titanium alloy plate forms a passivated oxide coating or coating that protects the bulk metal from further oxidation. Suppliers of titanium sheet note that atmospheric passivation gives titanium foil excellent corrosion resistance. However, as a metal Titanium alloy plate can withstand attack by dilute sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, chloride solutions, and most organic acids; however, titanium metal plate will corrode by concentrated acids.

For example, pure 0.125 titanium plate is used in the manufacture of fibrous metals that can be used to replace bone or tissue because 0.012 titanium plate is considered inherently biocompatible. Titanium plate is highly resistant to corrosion, which makes it an inert biomaterial, i.e., titanium plate will not change once it is implanted in the body.
