Evaluation Criteria for Molybdenum Ore

Feb 06, 2024

So far, no natural monomers of molybdenum have been found in nature. Among the more than 30 kinds of molybdenum-containing minerals that have been discovered, molybdenite is the one with the widest distribution, the richest content, and the largest amount of mining. Pyromolybdenite accounts for more than 98% of the total amount of molybdenum mined in the world. As for molybdenite and molybdenite, although they are also widely distributed, they are not in large quantities, and are often exploited as trace minerals accompanying pyromolybdenite. In the development of molybdenum mines, molybdenum ore is very low in molybdenum content, usually about 0.1%, rarely more than 0.5%; and by-products of molybdenum ore, grade is often only 0.01% to 0.03% between. Obviously, it is impossible to utilize it without good enrichment. With the demand and mining volume increasing dramatically, molybdenum ore, especially by-product molybdenum ore molybdenum grade decreased significantly. With the expansion of application areas, the quality requirements of users for molybdenum concentrates are also increasing.

Evaluation criteria for molybdenum ore:

The industrial grade of molybdenum deposit is determined as 0.06%~0.08% Mo, and the boundary grade is ≥0.02%~0.04% Mo. The recoverable thickness of molybdenum ore body is required to be not less than 1~2m, and the thickness of the rejection of the stone sandwiched between the ore bodies should not be more than 2~4m. For copper-molybdenum deposit, the boundary grade of molybdenum is ≥0.01%~0.015%. For tungsten-molybdenum deposits, the cut-off grade of molybdenum is ≥0.01%.

The industrial grade and boundary grade will be adjusted accordingly with the improvement of the value of mineral products and development technology. In judging whether a deposit is worth mining, in addition to understanding the ore grade of molybdenum in the poor, rich, molybdenum metal deposits in the deposit of the number of reserves, but also to know the conditions of mining deposits, ore selectivity, plant construction related to the water, electricity, transportation conditions and so on. The most important thing is to estimate the economic benefits from this. This is a small mine, the assessment is particularly important.
