Hardware CNC castings are hardware casting products machined using computer numerical control (CNC) technology. Below are the quality inspection standards for hardware CNC castings:

 

Appearance Inspection

Surface Defects:

Porosity: Pores exceeding specified sizes and quantities are not allowed on the surface or inside the casting. The size, number, and distribution of pores must comply with relevant standards or technical requirements. Minor pores may be tolerated to some extent but must not affect the strength and sealing of the casting.

Sand Holes: Significant sand holes are not permitted. The diameter and depth of sand holes must be within specified tolerance ranges. Excessive or numerous sand holes can reduce the strength and appearance quality of the casting.

Inclusions: Inclusions are not allowed on the surface or inside the casting, as they can affect its mechanical properties and machinability.

Cracks: Both surface and internal cracks are strictly prohibited, as they significantly reduce the strength of the casting and pose serious safety risks. For minor suspected cracks, further inspection methods such as nondestructive testing can be used for confirmation.

Cold Shuts: Cold shut defects are not allowed, as they can compromise the integrity and strength of the casting.

Surface Roughness:
Based on the usage requirements and design standards of the casting, an appropriate surface roughness range should be determined. Surface roughness is typically measured using a roughness tester or compared with standard samples. It must meet the requirements specified in the drawings or relevant standards.

Color and Appearance:
If color requirements are specified for the casting, the color must be uniform and consistent with the standard color chart or sample. Additionally, the appearance of the casting should be clean, free from obvious stains, rust, scale, etc.

 

Dimensional Accuracy

Basic Dimensions:
The basic dimensions of the casting, such as length, width, height, and diameter, must comply with the design drawings. Tolerance ranges are typically determined based on the casting grade and usage requirements.

Geometric Tolerances:
Geometric tolerance indicators, including flatness, parallelism, perpendicularity, roundness, and cylindricity, must meet relevant standards or technical requirements. For example, flatness errors should be within the specified flatness tolerance range, and perpendicularity deviations should conform to design requirements.

Internal Quality Inspection

Chemical Composition:
The chemical composition of the casting must be tested using methods such as spectral analysis or chemical analysis to ensure it meets design requirements and relevant standards. For example, for steel castings, the content of elements such as carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur, and phosphorus must be tested. For aluminum alloy castings, the content of elements such as aluminum, magnesium, and silicon must be tested.

Mechanical Properties:

Tensile Strength: Tensile testing should be performed using a tensile testing machine to determine the tensile strength of the casting. The tensile strength must meet the values specified in the design requirements and relevant standards.

Yield Strength: The yield strength of the casting should be determined through tensile testing, as it is one of the key indicators of mechanical performance.

Hardness: Hardness testing should be conducted using a hardness tester. The hardness value must meet design requirements. Different materials and usage requirements may have varying hardness specifications. For example, castings subject to wear require higher hardness, while those requiring toughness may have lower hardness requirements.

Impact Toughness: For castings that may experience impact loads during operation, impact toughness must be tested. Impact toughness reflects the casting's ability to absorb energy under impact loads and is typically tested using an impact testing machine.

 

Other Inspections

Machinability:
If the casting requires subsequent machining, such as cutting, drilling, or tapping, its machinability must be tested. For example, the surface quality after machining should be good, and defects such as chipping or burrs should be minimized.

Sealing Performance:
For castings requiring sealing, such as valves or pump bodies, sealing performance tests must be conducted. Methods such as air tightness tests or water tightness tests can be used to check for leaks.

Nondestructive Testing:
Common nondestructive testing methods include magnetic particle testing, ultrasonic testing, and radiographic testing. These methods can detect internal defects such as cracks, pores, and inclusions, ensuring the internal quality of the casting.
