Surface Treatment Methods
Sandblasting
Purpose: Remove adhered sand, surface sintered layers, and partial oxide layers from the casting surface to prepare for subsequent treatments such as acid washing or electroplating.
Requirements: Sandblasting typically uses white corundum for coarse blasting. The blasting pressure should be controlled below 0.45 MPa to prevent intense sparks from sand particles impacting the titanium surface, which could cause temperature rise and reactions with the titanium surface, leading to secondary contamination.
Acid Washing
Purpose: Quickly and thoroughly remove reaction layers such as oxide layers and other contaminants from the casting surface while avoiding contamination by other elements.
Requirements: Commonly used acid washing solutions include HF-HCl and HF-HNO3 systems. The HF-HCl system has a higher hydrogen absorption capacity, while the HF-HNO3 system has lower hydrogen absorption and can achieve a bright surface finish. The concentration of the acid washing solution (e.g., HF concentration at 3%–5%, HNO3 concentration at 15%–30%) and temperature (generally 20–25°C) must be controlled during acid washing. The acid washing time is approximately 3–5 minutes. After acid washing, the castings must be thoroughly rinsed in water and dried in a hot air stream.
Other Methods
Surface treatment of titanium alloy castings may also include advanced techniques such as electrolytic mechanical composite grinding, barrel grinding, chemical polishing, and electrolytic polishing. These methods can further reduce surface roughness and improve surface glossiness but are relatively complex and suitable for applications with extremely high surface quality requirements.
Quality Inspection and Control
Purpose: Ensure the quality of titanium alloy castings after surface treatment meets standard requirements.
Requirements: Conduct strict quality inspections on castings after surface treatment, including appearance checks, dimensional accuracy checks, and surface roughness checks. Additionally, a quality control system should be established to monitor all aspects of the surface treatment process, ensuring the stability and consistency of process parameters.




Technical Safety
Requirements: During the surface treatment of titanium alloy castings, safety operating procedures must be strictly followed, and necessary protective equipment such as safety goggles, protective clothing, and gloves must be worn. Additionally, the integrity of processing equipment and tools should be ensured to prevent safety accidents caused by equipment failures or improper operations.
