Tool Wear: During the processing of titanium alloy components, the high hardness of titanium alloy and the increase in cutting temperature can cause severe wear in the cutting area. Tool tip wear is primarily due to the high hardness of titanium alloy and chemical reactions at high temperatures, leading to oxidation, spalling, and ablation of the tool surface. Blade wear occurs because the high hardness of titanium alloy causes significant friction between the blade and the workpiece, resulting in material wear and spalling on the blade surface.
This wear not only reduces cutting efficiency and surface quality but may also cause quality issues on the workpiece surface and even lead to tool breakage. Therefore, it is necessary to select tool materials with high hardness and wear resistance to effectively extend tool life.
Grinding Cracks: During the grinding process of titanium alloy components, grinding cracks may occur if appropriate measures are not taken. To avoid this, it is essential to select suitable coolant, abrasive fineness, abrasive dispersion, and grinding parameters, ensuring the coolant temperature is low and the pipeline equipment is unobstructed.
Simultaneously, hard abrasives such as ceramic abrasives should be used as much as possible, and appropriate grinding machine accuracy and workpiece surface roughness should be selected based on actual conditions. Additionally, the influence of the grinding tool's depth of cut and grinding speed on grinding cracks requires special attention and should be set within a reasonable range as much as possible.
Friction Issues: Titanium alloy is highly sensitive to friction, which can reduce its fatigue life. Therefore, during design, efforts should be made to minimize this friction effect. At the same time, while titanium alloy has good corrosion resistance, it is not wear-resistant and may experience contact corrosion and spontaneous combustion under certain conditions. To avoid these issues, appropriate coatings or other measures should be adopted to compensate.
