Titanium Extrusion Casting Molding Technology
Oct 28, 2024
Titanium extrusion casting molding technology, similar to the previously mentioned aluminum alloy extrusion casting, is also divided into direct extrusion and indirect extrusion two ways. Due to the high melting point of titanium metal, activity, equipment and process conditions have more stringent requirements.
Direct extrusion casting: in the open mold directly into the molten state of titanium metal, followed by rapid closure of the mold and the application of high pressure, so that the titanium metal under pressure solidification and microplastic deformation, so as to obtain a dense blank or parts. This method requires strict control of the melting temperature and pouring rate of the titanium metal to prevent oxidation of the metal and gas entrapment.
Indirect squeeze casting: The molten or semi-solid titanium metal is solidified by applying high pressure through a punch and pressing it into a closed mold cavity. This method provides better control over the flow of the liquid metal and the solidification process, reducing the generation of defects.
Theoretical study of titanium metal squeeze casting molding
In the extrusion casting molding process of titanium metal, pressure is also one of the most critical parameters. Pressure not only affects the solidification behavior of titanium metal, but also significantly changes its microstructure and mechanical properties.

The effect of pressure on solidification behavior: high pressure can promote the rapid solidification of titanium metal, refine the grain, and improve the densification and strength of the material. In addition, pressure can also reduce the solidification temperature of titanium metal, shorten the solidification time.
Effect of pressure on microstructure: Under pressure, the grains of titanium metal will become finer and evenly distributed, which helps to improve the mechanical properties and fatigue resistance of the material.
Effect of pressure on mechanical properties: Titanium parts made by squeeze casting usually have higher strength and better toughness, which can meet the more demanding requirements.
Titanium extrusion casting process method
Titanium metal squeeze casting process methods also include direct extrusion, indirect extrusion and convex mold pressurized solidification and other ways. In practice, according to the specific shape of the parts, size and performance requirements to choose the appropriate process.
Titanium extrusion casting material research
Titanium metal in the squeeze casting molding technology in the application of research is not only concerned about its basic physical and chemical properties, but also involves the material modification, alloying and composite materials.
Titanium alloy: by adding appropriate amount of alloying elements (such as aluminum, vanadium, molybdenum, etc.), the strength and corrosion resistance of titanium metal can be further improved to meet the needs of a wider range of applications.
Titanium matrix composites: by compounding titanium metal with ceramics, intermetallic compounds and other reinforcing phases, titanium matrix composites with excellent comprehensive performance can be prepared. These composites have broad application prospects in aerospace, defense and other fields.
