ASTM B423 is a standard specifcation for nickel chromium pipesand tubes, which are composed of nickel-iron-chromiummolybdenum-copper based alloys in the form of cold-worked andhot-finished seamless pipes and seamless tubes intended forgeneral corrosive applications. The chemical composition is suchthat it provides exceptional resistance to most corrosiveenvironments. The Nickel content in its composition exhibitsexcellent resistance towards chloride-ion stress crackingcorrosion. When nickel is added with molybdenum and copper inits composition, it provides outstanding resistance towardsreducing environments such as the one containing sulfuric orphosphoric acid in them. Addition of Molybdenum also helps inresistance towards pitting and crevice corrosion. The chromiumcontent in the alloys composition shows good resistance towardsvarious oxidizing agents like nitrates, nitric acids and oxidizingsalts.
