1. Overview
Grade 6 titanium, otherwise referred to as Ti-5Al-2.5Sn, features a high service temperature reaching 480 °C (896 °F). It exhibits medium-level strength, along with outstanding weldability and fabricability. The Ti-5Al-2.5Sn alloy demonstrates excellent oxidation resistance and the stability of its microstructure.
2. Metallurgy and Working Characteristics
Grade 6 alloy is an α-type titanium alloy that falls into the medium-strength category. It does not respond to heat treatment for strengthening purposes and is typically utilized in the annealed condition, where it shows favorable fracture toughness both at room temperature and elevated temperatures.
This alloy is highly proficient in fusion welding and is well suited to fusion welding processes employing tungsten electrodes and metal electrodes, provided they are carried out under the protection of an inert gas. It serves as a viable material for manufacturing components such as casings and wall panels. The alloy is capable of withstanding a long-term working temperature of up to 500 °C, while its short-term working temperature can peak at 800 °C.
The TA7 ELI alloy (Chinese designation TA7 ELI), the low-interstitial version of Ti-5Al-2.5Sn, is particularly appropriate for low-temperature applications. Semi-finished products fabricated from this alloy encompass plates, bars, rings and the like, and it can also be used to produce castings.

5. Forms and Applications
Grade 6 is supplied as seamless tubes as well as plates, bars, rings and castings. It is used for casings, wall panels and high-temperature ducting in chemical and thermal processing equipment, engine-adjacent components, and other service where a stable, oxidation-resistant alpha titanium alloy is required up to about 500 °C continuous operation. The TA7 ELI low-interstitial variant is specified for cryogenic applications.
