Titanium Alloy Plate Grade 5

Grade 5 alloy is a medium-strength α-β two-phase titanium alloy containing 6% α stabilizing element Al and 4% β stabilizing element V. This alloy has excellent comprehensive properties and is most widely used in the aviation and aerospace industries.

Description

Grade5 titanium alloy is a medium-strength α-β two-phase titanium alloy, containing 6% α-stabilizing element Al and 4% β-stabilizing element V. The alloy can work at a temperature of 400℃ for a long time. The main semi-finished products of TC4 titanium alloy are bars, forgings, thick plates, thin plates, profiles and wires. The alloy is mainly used in the annealed state, and can also be strengthened by solution aging treatment, but the hardened section generally does not exceed 25mm.

Grade5 Titanium Alloy Applications

  • Heat Transfer: The main industrial application of titanium is heat transfer applications, where the cooling medium is seawater, brackish water or contaminated water. Titanium condensers, shell and tube heat exchangers and plate heat exchangers are widely used in power plants, refineries, air conditioning systems, chemical plants, offshore platforms, surface ships and submarines. Welded titanium tubes are used in power plant condensers and are well applied.
  • Desalination: Its excellent corrosion resistance, erosion resistance and high condensation efficiency make titanium cost-effective and a reliable material for key parts of desalination plants. The increase in the use of thin-walled welded tubing makes titanium as competitive as copper and nickel.
  • Extraction and Electrowinning of Metals: The wet extraction of metals from ores in titanium reactors is an environmentally friendly smelting alternative. Extended service life, improved energy efficiency and increased product purity are the driving forces for the use of titanium electrodes in the electrowinning and electrorefining of metals such as copper, gold, manganese and manganese dioxide.
  • Medical Titanium Alloys: Titanium is widely used in implants, surgical instruments, pacemakers and centrifuges. Titanium is the most biocompatible of all metals due to its resistance to attack by body fluids, high strength and low modulus.
  • Hydrocarbon Processing: The need for longer equipment life, coupled with the need for less downtime and maintenance, favors the use of titanium in heat exchangers, vessels, columns and piping systems in refineries, LNG plants and offshore platforms. Titanium is not affected by general attack and stress corrosion cracking by hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulfide, salt water and carbon.
  • Marine Applications: Due to its high toughness, high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, titanium is currently being used in submarine ball valves, fire pumps, heat exchangers, castings, deep sea submersible hull materials, water jet propulsion systems, shipboard cooling and piping systems.
  • Chemical Processing: Titanium vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, agitators, coolers and piping systems are used for aggressive compounds such as nitric acid, organic acids, chlorine dioxide, inhibited reducing acids and hydrogen sulfide.
  • Structural/Architectural Applications: The use of titanium as a building material is rapidly gaining worldwide acceptance. Its corrosion resistance, light weight, strength, durability, soft metallic appearance and virtually unlimited service life make titanium a cost-effective material among other materials. Typical areas include roofs, ceilings, exterior siding, sculptures and monuments.
