CNC machining of shaft parts is characterized by high precision and efficiency. Simple shafts (such as smooth and stepped shafts) are typically completed on a CNC lathe through multiple processes, including rough turning, semi-finishing, and finishing. Key dimensions must be controlled to within ±0.01mm. Complex shafts (such as drive shafts with keyways and splines) require a combination of turning and milling, completing multiple features in a single setup to avoid re-positioning errors. Slender shafts require a steady rest or steady rest to prevent deformation, while high-hardness materials (such as hardened steel) require grinding as a final machining step.

High-speed CNC machining of metal parts
