Description

CNC machining of shaft parts is characterized by high precision and efficiency. Simple shafts (such as smooth and stepped shafts) are typically completed on a CNC lathe through multiple processes, including rough turning, semi-finishing, and finishing. Key dimensions must be controlled to within ±0.01mm. Complex shafts (such as drive shafts with keyways and splines) require a combination of turning and milling, completing multiple features in a single setup to avoid re-positioning errors. Slender shafts require a steady rest or steady rest to prevent deformation, while high-hardness materials (such as hardened steel) require grinding as a final machining step.

High-speed CNC machining of metal parts

High-end shaft components (such as spindles and lead screws) used in semiconductors and precision machinery have even more stringent process requirements. These parts not only require IT5-level dimensional accuracy (±0.005mm) and surface roughness below Ra0.2μm, but also require controlled micro-residual stresses. A typical process chain consists of turning, heat treatment, fine grinding, and polishing. Ultra-precision shafts may even require additional honing or laser correction steps. A constant temperature environment (20±1°C) and vibration-proofing measures are required during machining. In addition, online measurement systems are used to compensate for thermal deformation in real time, ensuring nanometer-level form accuracy (e.g., roundness ≤0.5μm).
