Description

What Are Precision CNC Cylinder Parts?

Precision CNC cylinder parts are machined components used as the moving or sealing elements of pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders, shock absorbers, and linear actuators. They are produced on Swiss-type and multi-axis CNC machines with super-hard alloy tooling, then finished with processes such as honing, superfinishing, and precision grinding to meet tight geometry requirements.

Typical applications include hydraulic cylinders for construction and material-handling equipment, pneumatic actuator bodies, damper rods, and high-pressure test rigs - any system where roundness, surface finish, and sealing behavior directly determine service life and leakage performance.

Materials and Mechanical Properties

Material Typical Condition Tensile Strength (solution-aged) Best For
High-strength aluminum alloy (e.g., 6061-T6 / 7075-T6) T6 / T651 310–570 MPa Lightweight actuators, low-inertia motion systems
Precipitation-hardened stainless steel (e.g., 17-4 PH) H900–H1150 Up to 1200 MPa High-pressure (>500 bar), corrosive environments
Carbon / alloy steel (e.g., 45#, 40Cr) Q&T / nitrided 800–1100 MPa Heavy-duty hydraulic cylinders

Note: strength figures above follow standard mill certificates (EN 10204 3.1 / ASTM E8). Final values for each lot are confirmed against the factory test report before shipment - request a COA with your inquiry.

Manufacturing Process

3.1 Swiss-type precision machining

Components are turned and milled on Swiss-type CNC machines with super-hard alloy tooling, which supports tight concentricity between the bore and the outer diameter in a single setup.

3.2 Honing and crosshatch finishing

A dedicated honing process generates a 60° crosshatch pattern on the cylinder inner wall. The pattern retains a thin oil film that tightens sealing while reducing sliding friction, extending the maintenance interval of the assembly.

3.3 Integrated design capability

Sensor mounting slots and buffer adjustment cavities can be machined in a single integrated operation, eliminating secondary welding or assembly steps and improving dimensional consistency for actuator housings.

Dimensional Tolerances

Dimension (mm) Linear Tolerance (±mm) Flatness Range (mm) Flatness Tolerance (mm)
0–6 ±0.05 0–30 0.05
>6–30 ±0.10 >30–100 0.10
>30–120 ±0.15 >100–300 0.20
>120–400 ±0.20 >300–1000 0.30
>400–1000 ±0.30 >1000–3000 0.40
>1000–2000 ±0.50 - -

Key mating surfaces are held to a roundness of ≤0.003 mm and a surface roughness of Ra0.1 μm; tighter tolerances are achievable per drawing review. General tolerances follow ISO 2768-1, and surface texture requirements follow ISO 1302.

Surface Treatment and Coatings

PTFE composite coating - low-friction sealing surfaces for pneumatic service.

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) film - high wear resistance for reciprocating elements.

Hard anodizing (aluminum) - surface hardness above HV800 for wear-critical bores.

Passivation / electropolishing (stainless steel) - corrosion resistance and cleanability for food and medical-adjacent applications.

With appropriate coatings, components maintain reliable sealing performance in environments from −80 °C to 300 °C. Environmental claims such as RoHS compliance should be confirmed against the material certificate for each batch.

Quality Control and Inspection

In-process inspection with micrometers, calipers, and depth gauges on every critical dimension.

CMM dimensional verification for complex geometry and datum-controlled features.

Surface roughness measurement (Ra / Rz) per ISO 4287.

Salt-spray and hardness testing on coated batches per the customer's specification.

Full dimensional report (FAI/ISIR) supplied with each order on request.

Applications

Precision CNC cylinder components serve high-reliability sectors: hydraulic cylinders for construction and agricultural machinery, pneumatic actuators for industrial automation, damper and shock-absorber internals, high-pressure test equipment, and aerospace ground-support tooling. Our machining facility exports to industrial markets in Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific.

FAQ

Q1. What is the minimum order quantity?

MOQ starts from prototype quantities for validation. Series production MOQs are quoted per part after drawing review.

Q2. What drawing formats do you accept?

STEP, IGES, STP, DWG, DXF, PDF, and sample parts. We perform a manufacturability (DFM) review within 24 hours.

Q3. What are typical lead times?

In-stock or simple parts ship in 5–10 days; custom machined parts generally require 15–20 days depending on quantity and surface treatment.

Q4. Do you provide samples, and is sampling free?

Yes - sample machining is free of charge; the customer pays freight only.

Q5. What are your payment terms?

Orders ≤ USD 1,000: 100% in advance. Orders > USD 1,000: 30% T/T deposit, balance before shipment.

Q6. Can you guarantee the claimed tolerances?

Yes - every critical dimension is verified with calibrated instruments, and a dimensional report accompanies the shipment. Tolerance capability is confirmed at the DFM stage.
