Application Of Titanium Alloy in Petrochemical Industry
Nov 29, 2024
Since the discovery of titanium metal, the chemical industry has been the largest amount of use. In the past 12 years, the domestic consumption of titanium in the chemical industry has exceeded 15,000 tons per year.
Titanium relies on: titanium is stronger and has a higher operational capacity
Don't underestimate the full titanium alloy drill pipe, the specific strength of this rod, is 3.5 times that of stainless steel, 1.3 times that of aluminum alloy, 1.6 times that of magnesium alloy, the same lightness and weight, can withstand greater impact and pressure.
Its tensile strength is also 1.5-2 times that of other alloys, which makes it safer and more durable when drilling into the ground, and is especially suitable for drilling operations in the Northwest Oilfield under the conditions of ultra-deep wells, short radius wells and other complex well conditions.
In recent years, in order to improve the crude oil recovery rate, reduce the cost of oil and gas fields, and extend the development life of oil and gas fields, there are more and more complex structural wells, such as large displacement wells, short radius wells, and old wells with open-window sidetrack drilling horizontal wells. Conventional drill pipe has encountered some difficult problems when applied in these complex structure wells. For example, in ultra-short radius horizontal wells, the borehole curvature is very small (<18m), which makes the conventional drill pipe generate large alternating stress. The fatigue fracture of drill pipe caused by alternating stress occurs from time to time, which brings significant losses to the oilfield. In order to solve these problems, foreign countries began to start from new materials, the development of titanium alloy drill pipe, aluminum alloy drill pipe, composite drill pipe and so on instead of conventional drill pipe.

Laboratory confirmed that when the cyclic stress is at 30,000psi-40,000psi, the fatigue life of titanium is 10 times that of ordinary steel, and the coefficient of elasticity of titanium alloy tubing is about 16.5msi, which is more elastic than steel drill pipe, and is more suitable for high-curvature well sections. At present, we have already produced titanium alloy drill pipe with good economy, the material is Ti-6Al-4V pipe body after upsetting at both ends and butt-welding tool joints at both ends, the size of titanium pipe body meets the API standard, and the length range is 2 or 3 in the range of the API standard. in order to reduce the manufacturing cost, the tool joints are made of steel, and the joints threads are ground by the upper unloading buckle, and the joints OD are welded with wear-resistant tape. Titanium alloy drill pipe is also used in ultra-deep wells and large displacement wells. Due to the low density of titanium alloy, it can reduce the large hook load by 30%, reduce the torque by 30-40%, significantly improve the tensile margin and safety factor of the drilling tools, and improve the ability to deal with the complexity of the accident.
Under daily environment, the service life of titanium alloy drill pipe is 10 times that of conventional steel drill pipe of the same specification; under corrosive environment, it is 100 times that of conventional steel drill pipe.
In addition to drill pipes, offshore oil platform pillars, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, etc., oil extraction and refining fields are widely used.
For example, the United States of America's North Sea oil rigs, with 100 titanium heat exchangers; Norway's Heidrum project, with the world's first titanium high-pressure riser tube shaft.
Titanium is reliable: titanium is more resistant to corrosion and has a longer operating life.
Offshore oil extraction platforms, biological pollution caused by corrosion of structural components is quite powerful. Often, equipment made of conventional metals is left "half-dead". ......
However, the surface of titanium has a layer of naturally formed, dense, inert, rust-resistant, corrosion-resistant oxidized film, without the need for additional anti-corrosion treatment, can easily resist the corrosion of seawater, sulfuric acid, petrochemicals.
Titanium components, can help oil drilling into deeper waters and deeper wells, including higher temperatures and highly corrosive (i.e., multi-salt) production environments.
With titanium, rigs just explore and fear nothing!
Most of China's natural gas resources are sulfur-containing gas fields, such as the Tarim in Xinjiang and the Sichuan Basin, both of which are high sulfur-containing gas fields. High-containing H2S2, C2O2 oil and gas field pipe corrosion, high temperature and high pressure conditions for long-term service is the difficult problem of oil and gas development, the selection of high-quality corrosion-resistant materials for the pipe has become the dominant trend. Titanium alloy with its excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, is applied to high sulfur environment, especially harsh conditions, Cl and H2S content is very high, general stainless steel, and even nickel-based alloys are corrosion occurs.
Titanium is reliable: titanium is lighter and more flexible in operation.
Although, titanium rods are more powerful than steel rods
However, titanium rods are also lighter, weighing almost half as much as steel in the same volume.
Because titanium rods are lighter, the torque of drilling is reduced by nearly 50%, the load of top drive on the ground is correspondingly smaller (PS: smaller force, deeper and more stable drilling), and the equipment is not so easy to break.
So, titanium rods are powerful and lighter, they can save more energy, fuel and equipment.
Titanium alloy this rod, use it, it is a book, kill the two brothers of steel!
Chemical titanium, titanium reliable!
