Technical Standards For Zirconium Industry Production
Jan 31, 2024
Zirconium is a silvery-white transition metal that is often referred to as a "rare metal" because it is not easily extracted due to the complexity of the production process. In fact, the content of zirconium in the earth's crust is about 0.025%, ranking 19th, almost equal to chromium, and more than the common metals copper, lead, nickel and zinc, but the distribution is very scattered.
Zirconium is easy to form a layer of oxide film on the surface in the air, has a glossy appearance similar to steel. Zirconium is corrosion-resistant, but soluble in hydrofluoric acid and aqua regia; at high temperatures, it can react with many elements to generate solid solution compounds, zirconium's corrosion resistance is better than titanium, and tantalum-niobium close. In view of the good plasticity of zirconium, often processed into plates, wires and so on. Zirconium can absorb oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen and other gases in large quantities when heated, and can be used as hydrogen storage materials.

As a relatively scarce resource, zirconium is widely used in electronics, ceramics, glass, petrochemicals, building materials, medicine, textiles and daily necessities. Zirconium resources are concentrated in Australia and South Africa, while China and Europe are the main zirconium consuming regions.
