Titanium Tube Surface Treatment Methods
Nov 11, 2023
The alloying on the surface of titanium tubes can also be called a coating. Compared with the palladium oxide coating on titanium, it has the advantages of strong bonding force, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. Compared with titanium-palladium alloys, palladium has a high surface content, which saves precious metal palladium, reduces costs, and also has excellent performance.
Aluminizing the surface of titanium tubes can reduce the tendency of titanium to absorb hydrogen. Mixing 88% alumina, 4% aluminum fluoride and 8% aluminum powder and coating it on the titanium workpiece is a good aluminizing condition. The temperature is 810°C. . The thickness and structure of the aluminized layer depend on the holding time. Using the infiltration method to aluminize, a thin coating of about 2 mm thick can be obtained through short-term diffusion, which has good bonding force and does not affect the mechanical properties of the substrate. The coating consists primarily of a titanium oxide phase, forming a very effective barrier against hydrogen penetration.
After palladium is plated on the titanium tube, it can be heated through different methods to spread the palladium coating to the surface area of the titanium tube to form a titanium-palladium alloy layer on the surface, thereby improving the corrosion resistance. Heating diffusion or laser surface remelting are both feasible in principle. Using a laser to irradiate the titanium surface causes it to rapidly melt and condense, allowing the 150-micron palladium-plated film previously deposited in a vacuum to quickly melt to form an effective palladium alloy.
Surface treatment of titanium tubes has many benefits. It can not only increase the oxidation resistance of titanium tubes, but also enhance the brightness of the surface of titanium tubes. Different titanium tube surface treatment methods will meet different performance requirements for titanium tubes and are an important reflection of the current manufacturing capabilities of titanium tube manufacturers.
