Defects That Occur When Producing Titanium Plates

Nov 12, 2023

With the development of economy and technology, titanium plates are extremely important lightweight structural materials. There are more and more applications of titanium plates, but accordingly, the problem of surface quality becomes more prominent. Titanium plates and surface reaction layers are the main factors affecting the physical and chemical properties of titanium workpieces. Before processing, the surface contamination layer must be completely removed. and defective layer.
1. Unconventional defects:
1) Surface crack
The surface cracks have not been removed or the brittle getter layer on the surface of the incoming material has not been removed. Reason: the incoming material is unqualified. In addition, the pressing procedures are unreasonable, the pass processing rate is small, there are too many passes, or the pass processing rate is unevenly distributed. Reasonably allocate the pass processing rate, measures: strictly control the surface quality of incoming materials. Ensure uniform slab annealing temperature and enhance rolling lubrication.
2) Acid spots
The reason why the residual acid is not rinsed is: one is during pickling. The sheet is formed by drying. One is caused by uneven surface oxidation of plates when they are stacked and annealed, and inconsistent surface corrosion levels after pickling. Make sure there is no residual acid on the surface of the board before drying; reduce the stacking thickness. Measures: pickling must be clean. Ensure that the plate is annealed evenly; sanding can also be used to save it in the later stage.
2. General defects:
1) scratch
There are adherents or angular burrs, etc. The reason is: the guide plate, roller table, tools and rollers are not smooth. Rolling scratches the surface; carelessness during operation causes them to collide with each other and scratch the surface. If problems are found, eliminate them in time; operate carefully. Measures: Check tools, guide plates, roller tables, rolls, etc. before rolling. Don't mess around.
2) Metal press-ins
Reason: The edge burrs and tail slag of the rolled piece are pressed into the product surface. Cut off the split ends promptly. Measures: Eliminate burrs on the edge of the slab and foreign matter on the surface in a timely manner. Cracked edges.
3) Non-metallic pressed objects
Dust and foreign matter fall on the surface of the rolled parts; after pickling, the reason is: poor environmental hygiene. Not clean. Remove adhesion on the surface of rolled parts promptly. Measures: Improve hygiene.
4) Roller marks
There are pits, pits, scratches, etc.; the roller surface is pressed out by the plate corners. Reason: The roller surface is severely worn. The rollers need to be ground or replaced. Measures: Found roller marks.
5) Pockmarks and pits
There is dust and foreign matter on the surface of the pressure plate or backing plate. Reason: During compression orthopedic annealing. Measures: Clean the surface of the pressure plate and backing plate in time before entering the furnace.
