Titanium Plate Grade 5
Ti-6Al-4V (grade 5) belongs to α-β alloy and is the most widely used high-strength titanium alloy. The alloy combines good mechanical strength with low density (4.42 kg/dm³), resulting in excellent corrosion resistance in many media.
Description
Grade 5 titanium offers excellent resistance to many marine and offshore oil and gas environments. Titanium and its alloys are resistant to a wide range of acidic conditions, are highly resistant to oxidizing acids, have useful resistance to reducing acids, and have good resistance to most organic acids at lower concentrations and temperatures. Titanium should not be used with red fume nitric acid; titanium is rapidly attacked by hydrofluoric acid.
Products Description
Grade 5 titanium is fully heat treatable (solution heat treated plus aging) in sections up to 25mm and can be used at temperatures up to around 400°C. Ti-6Al-4V ELI (grade 23) has a reduced oxygen content (max. 0.13%) compared to grade 5. This increases ductility and fracture toughness but reduces mechanical strength. Uses include breaking critical airframe structures and offshore tubing.
