Tungsten Alloy Sheet
The metal tungsten is lustrous, silvery-white, and not naturally occurring (abundance in the earth's crust is 1 part per million). It occurs in tungsten ores as a tungstate of iron and manganese (FeMn)WO₄, which is converted to a trioxide and then reduced to a metal in hydrogen (carbon cannot be used because it produces a very stable carbide).
Description
The metal tungsten is relatively inert and is not attacked by oxygen, acids, or bases, but will react with molten oxidizing alkaline media. Tungsten has the highest melting point of all the metals and is relatively easy to work with in its pure form, but the presence of impurities can make tungsten very brittle and therefore difficult to work with. Tungsten's high melting point makes it suitable for use as an electric light filament (e.g., in electric light bulbs).

Tungsten is also the basis for a range of alloys containing tungsten, copper and nickel, which can be used for radiation shielding because they are 50% denser compared to lead. Tungsten and its alloys are also used for military purposes (e.g. armor and artillery shells) and as a balancing material. Tungsten carbide powders (with the possible addition of titanium and tantalum carbides) are compressed and sintered with nickel or cobalt powders to produce cemented carbides. These products can be used in place of high-speed steel to form the tips of cutting and drilling tools, or for parts that require heavy use.
