SB265 grade 23 is a high-purity titanium alloy that complies with ASME standards. Its composition is 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium, or 6Al-4V.
This alloy contains extremely low levels of impurities such as oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, and iron (extremely low interstitial elements: ELI).
SB265 grade 23, 6Al-4V, and ELI metals are used in human implants and surgical materials due to their high strength and low specific gravity. They are also used in aircraft and marine applications.
Its corrosion resistance makes it suitable for marine applications, and it exhibits excellent mechanical properties even at extremely low temperatures. SB265 grade 23 titanium alloy has a hardness of 30-34 HRC in the annealed state.
ASME SB265 is the standard for pure titanium and titanium alloys, as well as for annealed plate, sheet, and strip products. 23 corresponds to UNS R56407.
SB265 grade 23 alloy has a specific gravity of 4.47 g/cm³, a minimum tensile strength of 828 MPa, and a specific strength of 185. A240-304 has a specific gravity of 7.9 g/cm³, a minimum tensile strength of 520 MPa, and a specific strength of 66, demonstrating a higher specific strength.
