To prevent rusting of non-standard steel parts during storage, measures can be taken in terms of controlling the storage environment, applying protective treatments, and strengthening management. The specifics are as follows:

 

Control the Storage Environment

Select an Appropriate Storage Location:
Non-standard steel parts should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse, avoiding outdoor storage. The warehouse should be kept away from water sources, chemical pollutants, and damp areas such as rivers or chemical workshops to prevent moisture and corrosive substances in the environment from causing rust. The indoor relative humidity should ideally be controlled below 60%, which can be achieved by installing dehumidification equipment or placing desiccants.

Maintain Cleanliness:
Regularly clean the warehouse to remove dust, debris, and metal chips, as these materials may absorb moisture or contain corrosive components that accelerate rusting of steel parts. Additionally, avoid operations in the warehouse that generate large amounts of dust or corrosive gases.

Ensure Proper Stacking:
Non-standard steel parts should be sorted and stacked in designated areas, avoiding contact between parts of different materials or surface treatments to prevent electrochemical reactions that could cause rust. Furthermore, parts should not be placed directly on the ground but should be stored on shelves or pallets, maintaining a distance of at least 15 cm from the ground to facilitate air circulation and reduce the impact of ground moisture on the parts.

 

Apply Protective Treatments

Coat with Rust Preventatives:
Applying suitable rust preventatives to the surface of non-standard steel parts is an effective method to prevent rust. Depending on the part's usage environment and requirements, choose oil-based, water-based, or vapor-phase rust preventatives. Ensure the rust preventative is evenly applied to the part surface without omissions or buildup.

Use Passivation Treatment:
For non-standard steel parts with higher rust prevention requirements, passivation treatment can be applied. By using passivating agents, a dense passivation film is formed on the steel surface, enhancing its corrosion resistance. After passivation, thoroughly clean the parts to remove residual passivating agents and impurities, and perform drying treatment.

Apply Surface Coating:
Coating with metals or alloys, such as zinc plating, nickel plating, or chrome plating, is an effective rust prevention method. These metal coatings form a protective film on the steel surface, isolating it from air and moisture to prevent rust. The coating process must strictly follow operating procedures to ensure the coating is uniform, firm, and free of pores.

Strengthen Inventory Management

Conduct Regular Inspections:
Establish a regular inspection system to periodically check stored non-standard steel parts, promptly identifying signs of rust and other issues. Inspection content includes the rust condition of part surfaces, the effectiveness of rust preventatives, and the integrity of packaging. For parts with minor rust, promptly perform derusting and rust prevention treatment. For severely rusted parts, analyze the causes and take appropriate measures.

Follow First-In-First-Out (FIFO) Principle:
Adhere to the FIFO principle to ensure timely turnover and usage of stored non-standard steel parts, reducing the risk of rust due to prolonged storage. Additionally, when issuing parts, check their rust prevention status and, if necessary, reapply rust prevention treatment before use.

Maintain Records and Traceability:

Keep detailed inventory records, including information such as the parts' inbound time, storage location, rust prevention treatment methods, and inspection results.
