Overview of the application of tungsten
The melting point of tungsten is the highest among all metal elements, and its density (19.3 g/cm³) is very high, close to that of gold. The hardness of tungsten is also very high, such as the hardness of tungsten carbide is close to that of diamond. In addition, tungsten also has good electrical and thermal conductivity, small expansion coefficient and other characteristics, and thus is widely used in alloys, electronics, chemicals and other fields, of which cemented carbide is the largest consumer of tungsten.
Alloy field
Steel
Tungsten steel milling cutter tungsten's hardness is very high, tungsten's density is close to that of gold, thus it can improve the strength, hardness and wear resistance of steel, it is an important alloying element, it is widely used in the production of all kinds of steel, common tungsten-containing steel are high-speed steel, tungsten steel and tungsten-cobalt magnetic steel with high magnetizing strength and coercive magnetism, etc., these steel is mainly used in the manufacture of a variety of tools, such as drills, milling cutters, wire drawing dies, negative molds and positive molds, etc.
Tungsten carbide-based cemented carbide
Tungsten carbide has high wear resistance and refractoriness, and its hardness is close to that of diamond, so it is often used in some cemented carbides. At present, tungsten carbide-based cemented carbide is the largest consumer of tungsten. This kind of cemented carbide is a powder metallurgy product made by sintering tungsten carbide micron-sized powder and metal binder (e.g., cobalt, nickel, molybdenum) in a vacuum furnace or a hydrogen reduction furnace. Tungsten carbide-based cemented carbide is broadly divided into tungsten carbide - cobalt, tungsten carbide - titanium carbide - cobalt, tungsten carbide - titanium carbide - tantalum carbide (niobium) - cobalt and steel junction cemented carbide and so on four categories. These tungsten carbide-based cemented carbides are mainly used in the manufacture of cutting tools, mining tools and wire drawing dies.

Hot and wear-resistant alloys
Whirlpool machine impeller tungsten melting point is the highest of all metals, hardness is also very high, and thus often used to produce heat and wear-resistant alloys, such as tungsten and chromium, cobalt, carbon alloys are commonly used to produce such as the valve of the aero-engine, turbine impellers, such as high-strength wear-resistant parts, and tungsten and other refractory metals (such as tantalum, niobium, molybdenum, rhenium) alloys are often used to produce such as aerospace rockets, nozzles, engines and other high-heat-strength parts. High specific gravity alloys
High specific gravity alloys
Oil drilling due to the high density of tungsten, high hardness, thus becoming the production of high specific gravity alloys of ideal materials, these high specific gravity alloys according to the composition of the characteristics and uses are divided into the main series of W-Ni-Fe, W-Ni-Cu, W-Co, W-WC-Cu, W-Ag, such as this type of alloy has a large specific gravity, high strength, high ability to absorb rays, high coefficient of thermal conductivity, coefficient of thermal expansion is small, conductivity, weldability and processability. Good, weldability and processability and other characteristics, is widely used in aerospace, aviation, military, oil drilling, electrical instrumentation, medicine and other industries, such as the manufacture of armor, heat sinks, control the balance of the rudder hammer, and such as gate switch, circuit breaker, spot welding electrode and other contact materials.
Electronic field
Incandescent tungsten plasticity, evaporation rate is small, high melting point, electron emission ability, and thus tungsten and its alloys are widely used in electronics and power supply industry. For example, tungsten filament has a high luminous rate and a long service life, thus it is widely used in the manufacture of various bulb filaments, such as incandescent lamps, tungsten iodine lamps, etc. Tungsten filament can also be used in the manufacture of electronic oscillator tube direct hot cathode and gate as well as a variety of electronic instruments in the side hot cathode heater. The characteristics of tungsten make it also very suitable for TIG welding and other electrode materials similar to this work.
Chemical industry
Tungsten compounds are often used as catalysts and inorganic colors. For example, tungsten disulfide is used as a lubricant and catalyst in the production of synthetic gasoline, bronzed tungsten oxide is used in paintings, and calcium or magnesium tungsten is often used in phosphors.
Other fields
Because tungsten's thermal expansion properties are similar to those of boron silicate glass, it is used to make glass or metal seals. Tungsten's low sensitivity has led to its use in high-purity tungsten jewelry. In addition, tungsten is used in radiological medicine, and tungsten wire is used in some musical instruments for their hyunts.
