TA2 Titanium Alloy
TA2 titanium tubing shows excellent corrosion resistance in various corrosive environments, which is especially suitable for the chemical industry. For example, in the chlor-alkali industry, TA2 titanium tubing effectively resists corrosion by chlorine gas and hydrogen chloride.
Description
What Is TA2 Titanium Alloy?
TA2 is the Chinese national standard designation for industrial pure titanium, corresponding directly to ASTM Grade 2 (UNS R50400) . It is an α-type titanium alloy with a titanium purity of ≥ 99.2% .
Unlike alloyed titanium grades such as TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) or TA7 (Ti-5Al-2.5Sn), TA2 is non-heat-treatable and achieves its mechanical properties through solid solution strengthening controlled by oxygen and iron content. It is globally recognized as the most balanced and widely used industrial pure titanium grade, offering the optimal combination of strength, corrosion resistance, formability, and cost efficiency.

Performance of TA2 titanium pipe
1. Lightweight and corrosion resistant: TA2 pure titanium tubing is made of titanium metal with a purity of 99.5% or more, which is very light, with a specific gravity of only 4.5 g/cm³. At the same time, titanium metal has strong corrosion resistance, can be used in a variety of acids, alkalis, salts and other corrosive media for a long time without corrosion.
2. High strength and excellent mechanical properties: TA2 pure titanium tube has excellent mechanical properties, such as high strength and good plastic deformation ability. Its yield strength can reach 345 MPa, tensile strength of 480 MPa, yield elongation of about 18%. Therefore, TA2 pure titanium tubes are suitable for environments that require high strength and complex dynamic mechanical loads.

FAQ
What standards apply to TA2 titanium tube?
A:
Chinese standards: GB/T 3624, GB/T 3625, GB/T 2965
ASTM/ASME: ASTM B338 / ASME SB-338, ASTM B861, ASTM B862
Aerospace: AMS 4928
Is TA2 titanium tube weldable?
A: Yes, but special precautions are required. TA2 is weldable primarily via TIG (GTAW) welding. Due to titanium's high chemical reactivity at elevated temperatures, strict protection from atmospheric contamination is mandatory.
What is the optimal cold rolling reduction for TA2?
A: For two-roll cold rolling, 64% reduction per pass produces smooth surface finish with no micro-cracks. Increasing to 76% reduction causes visible longitudinal lines and micro-cracks.
What causes tube expansion cracking in TA2?
A: Case studies show that incomplete removal of longitudinal rolling lines at tube ends-even defects well within standard tolerance-can propagate during tube expansion, causing through-wall cracks.
Is TA2 tube suitable for seawater service?
A: Excellent. TA2 is a preferred material for seawater cooling systems, desalination plants, and marine piping. It is immune to chloride stress corrosion cracking below 120°C and exhibits outstanding pitting and crevice corrosion resistance.
Where should TA2 NOT be used?
A:
Strong reducing acids (HCl, H₂SO₄) without inhibitors
Hydrofluoric acid or fluoride-containing media
Hot >70°C concentrated chlorides (crevice corrosion risk)
Continuous service temperatures exceeding 300°C

Our factory is a specialized titanium mill products manufacturing facility, fully dedicated to the production of seamless and welded tubes, plate, sheet, bar, wire, and strip across a complete range of commercially pure and alloy titanium grades. Equipped with advanced cold rolling mills, continuous welding lines, precision slitting lines, and in-house heat treatment furnaces, we maintain full control over every stage of production-from raw material inspection to final non-destructive testing. Our quality system is certified to ISO 9001, and all products are manufactured and tested in accordance with international standards including ASTM, ASME, AMS, MIL, and GB/T, with mill test reports providing full traceability. With the capacity to handle both large-volume production runs and custom-engineered orders, we serve global customers across the aerospace, chemical processing, desalination, marine engineering, power generation, and medical implant industries.

Product Packaging
Our titanium mill products are packaged with industrial-grade precision and export-ready durability to ensure safe delivery to project sites worldwide. Tubes and bars are securely bundled with non-metallic strapping, protected with end caps, and wrapped in waterproof kraft paper or shrink film to prevent moisture ingress and surface contamination. Plate and sheet are interleaved with acid-free paper, stacked on heavy-duty wooden pallets, and steel-strapped for dimensional stability during ocean freight. Wire and strip coils are spooled on steel reels or fiber cores, vacuum-sealed in moisture-barrier bags with desiccant, and boxed in plywood cases suitable for air or sea transport. All packaging materials are iron-free and chloride-free to eliminate any risk of surface contamination or galvanic corrosion. Each package is clearly labeled with grade, heat number, dimensions, and customer PO, and full palletization and container loading plans are provided for large-volume shipments.
