What Is Gr6 Titanium?

Gr6 titanium, also known as Ti-5Al-2.5Sn or TA7, is an alpha-phase titanium alloy containing 5% aluminum and 2.5% tin. Unlike commercially pure titanium grades (Gr1–Gr4), Gr6 is a high-strength alloy designed for applications requiring:

Superior strength-to-weight ratio

Excellent weldability

Good stability at elevated temperatures (up to 480°C / 900°F)

High fracture toughness

Process Flow:

Billet preparation – Forged and conditioned Ti-5Al-2.5Sn round billet

Rotary piercing – Billet heated to beta transus range (1020–1060°C)

Cold rolling / pilgering – Multiple passes with intermediate annealing

Vacuum annealing – Stress relief and recrystallization

Straightening & cutting

NDT inspection – Ultrasonic or eddy current

Surface finishing – Pickled or ground OD
