ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium tubing is seamless or welded tubing made from commercially pure (CP) Grade 2 titanium, an unalloyed form of titanium, UNS No. R50400, which has a minimum titanium content in the range of approximately 98.925% to 99.5% by weight. ASTM B338 Gr. 2 titanium tubing is primarily used in the manufacture of surface condensers, evaporators, and heat exchangers. These applications typically require excellent corrosion resistance as well as high fabrication ductility with relatively low in-service strength. These titanium tubes can be further processed into spirals, U-tubes, serpentine tubes, concentric coils, and other specialized shapes.

Materials, Fabrication, and Heat Treatment
ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium welded pipe shall be made from annealed flat rolled sheet or strip by automatic electric arc welding (TIG) process. The main production process is as follows: titanium sheet uncoiling → shear butt welding → cleaning → tube forming → TIG welding → eddy current flaw detection → pre-diameter → annealing → precision reduction straightening → eddy current flaw detection → diameter measurement → marking → cutting → ultrasonic testing → hydrostatic testing → final inspection → packaging. Welded pipes shall be at least stress relieved heat treated after forming and welding. Filler materials are not allowed.
