Grade 9 titanium is sometimes referred to as "half 6-4". This titanium alloy containing 3% aluminum and 2.5% vanadium has 20% to 50% higher mechanical strength than commercially pure (CP) titanium grades, but is easier to form and weld than Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5).
The material has good corrosion resistance in oxidizing, neutral and mildly reducing media, including chlorides. Grade 18 titanium with the addition of palladium provides even higher corrosion resistance. The alloy resists oxidation at temperatures up to 600°F (316°C).
