Seamless titanium tubes are manufactured by rotary piercing or extrusion using a variety of equipment depending on the tubing requirements.

 

 

 

Titanium tube extrusion for rotary piercing tube production involves pushing the billet through two coaxial cone rollers that rotate in the same direction. The rollers compress the material and a tapered mandrel is set in the center gap. The mandrel forces the titanium outward and then presses the material against the backside tapered rollers. The tubing is then cooled, cold worked and hot worked to the desired diameter and gauge.

 

 

Extrusion is a process used to create an object with a fixed cross-sectional profile. Material is pushed or pulled through a die with the desired cross-section. The two main advantages of this process over other manufacturing processes are the ability to create very complex cross-sections and fragile processed materials, as the material is only subjected to compressive and shear stresses. The internal cavity is extruded by placing a pin or mandrel inside the die.
