Zirconium ferrosilicon, also known as silicon zirconium, is a ferrosilicon based alloy containing moderate amounts of zirconium. It is used as an inoculant and pretreatment agent for gray and ductile cast iron. Zirconium ferrosilicon reduces cold openings in areas of the casting where cooling is more rapid. Application of this inoculant will refine the graphite shape in thin or thicker sections. It is recommended as a ladle inoculant and as a flow-through inoculant.
