What Is Required For Tc11 Titanium Milling?
Apr 12, 2024
The various properties of tc11 titanium make it a powerfully attractive material for parts, but many of these properties also affect its machinability. Titanium has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, with a density that is typically only 60% that of steel. Titanium has a lower coefficient of elasticity than steel, resulting in a stiffer texture and better deflection. Titanium also has better erosion resistance than stainless steel and low thermal conductivity.
These properties mean that titanium generates higher and more concentrated cutting forces during machining. It is prone to vibration which can lead to chatter during cutting; and it also tends to react with the cutting tool material during cutting, which can exacerbate crescent pit wear. In addition, it has poor thermal conductivity, and since heat is concentrated in the cutting zone, tools for machining titanium must have high thermal hardness.
