Unalloyed commercially pure (CP) titanium is available in four different grades, specifically 1, 2, 3 and 4. CP titanium is ordered based on the corrosion resistance, formability (ductility), and strength requirements of a particular application. CP titanium ranges from grade 1, which has the highest corrosion resistance, formability, and the lowest strength, to grade 4, which has the highest strength and intermediate formability. CP titanium end-users utilize the excellent corrosion resistance, formability, and weldability properties of CP titanium for many critical applications. CP Titanium has a tendency to stick, rub or cold weld to the drawing die during processing. To avoid this, the industry often uses extensive etching or pickling during the finishing of dimensions, resulting in a rough or very textured surface GNEE Metals has developed processing techniques with an enhanced surface treatment that removes most of the residual oxides with only a small amount of etching during the machining of dimensions, resulting in a cleaner, smoother surface finish. Materials can be purchased with this improved surface treatment, as well as materials that retain a water-soluble lubricant for applications that require wire lubrication (such as braiding applications).
