Description
Ti-17 titanium alloy, also known as Ti-5Al-2Sn-2Zr-4Cr-4Mo alloy (UNS R58650), is a high-strength, deep-quenched alloy used in compressor disks and other large components.Ti-17 titanium alloy is a "β-rich" α-β type titanium alloy. The alloy is characterized by high strength, good fracture toughness, high hardenability, and a wide range of forging temperatures.Ti-17 titanium alloy can be machined in the β-zone or α+β-zone. Compared to Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-17 alloy has higher tensile and creep strength.

Weldability of grade 6 Ti-5Al-2.5Sn alloy is rated as good. This alloy is a single-phase material, hence the microstructure of the alpha phase is not affected by thermal treatments or welding temperatures.
Annealing of this material can be performed by heating to 650-760°C (1202-1400°F) for 6 min -2 h and then air cooled. In case stress relieving is required, the material has to be heated to 480-595°C (896-1103°F) for 15 min - 4 h, and then air cooled.
