Titanium Grade 5

Grade 5 is the most widely used titanium alloy. grade 5 titanium alloy rods are very strong but have relatively low ductility. Grade 5 straight titanium rods have higher tensile strength and higher weld joints than pure titanium. Therefore, grade 5 titanium bars are preferred when strength is more important than corrosion resistance. grade 5 industrial titanium rods are primarily used in aircraft and spacecraft. Offshore applications are also increasing. The alloy is weldable and precipitation hardened.

Grade 5 titanium is favored for its high Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS). It is more than four times as strong as Grade 1 titanium, while maintaining the same stiffness and thermal properties as commercially pure titanium. the standard minimum UTS for Ti6Al4V is 895 MPa. solid solution treatment and aging (STA) heat treatments can significantly improve mechanical properties. It can result in a UTS in excess of 1200 MPa.
