The high price of Gr7 titanium tube is mainly due to its unique composition and excellent performance, especially its excellent performance in corrosion resistance. The following are several main reasons for the high price of Gr7 titanium tube:
1. Rarity of alloy composition
High content of palladium (Pd): Gr7 titanium alloy is based on Gr2 pure titanium with 0.12-0.25% palladium added, and palladium is a very rare and expensive precious metal. Palladium is widely used in catalysts, electronics industry and other fields, with high demand and limited supply, which greatly increases the cost of Gr7 titanium tube. The high cost of palladium directly pushes up the price of the alloy.
2. Excellent corrosion resistance
Extremely strong corrosion resistance: The addition of palladium makes Gr7 titanium tube have excellent corrosion resistance in extremely corrosive environments, especially in acidic and chloride environments. This makes it more suitable for applications such as chemical equipment, marine engineering, nuclear power plants and oil and gas industries that require long-term resistance to strong corrosion than conventional pure titanium (such as Gr2) and other titanium alloys.
Resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion: Palladium is particularly effective in preventing pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride media, so Gr7 is more stable than other grades in highly corrosive environments. This unique property makes it more expensive.
3. Difficult to process
High-temperature processing characteristics of palladium: Due to the special physical and chemical properties of palladium, titanium alloys containing palladium require more sophisticated processes and strict temperature control during processing to avoid material deformation or degradation of properties. Therefore, it is more difficult to manufacture and process Gr7 titanium tubes, which increases production costs.
4. Strong specificity and concentrated demand
Application fields are highly specific: Gr7 titanium tubes are mainly used in high-end and special fields, such as chemical industry, nuclear industry, marine engineering, etc. These fields have very high requirements for material quality, so they usually need to purchase titanium alloys of excellent quality and meet specific standards, which limits large-scale mass production and also makes manufacturers only supply materials for niche markets, further pushing up prices.
5. Complex production process
Precision smelting and processing: The production of Gr7 titanium tubes requires not only the smelting of high-purity titanium, but also the precise control of the palladium content, while ensuring the uniform distribution of palladium elements in the casting, extrusion, welding and other links.
